glasses, chiropractor and maybe TMI

Growing up I never went to a chiropractor. I had the slightest idea of what they did but the one in our town was a little on the crazy side and we avoided his practice. Fast forward to 2004 I marry a man whose family is obsessed with chiropractic care. My husband insists he has to go frequently and that I have no clue what back pain is since I have never been adjusted I have no clue what it feels like to be in therefor I'm used to the pain making his much worse.

I had my first adjustment about a week before Landon was born. I was told it can speed up your labor and my first labor was four and half hours but who knows what contributed to that, the overload on pitocin, genetics that skipped my mother and blessed me with their presence or some unknown factor floating out there. But after that first adjustment I joined the world of the chiropractic obsessed. I knew it could help align your body and this made sense for back pain and faster labors. But I knew chiropractors also claimed they could help a lot of internal systems. I believed this to some degree but never witnessed it fully until the other day.

This is where it may get TMI so feel free to look away from the computer screen or just click off the screen. Ronan has never had a normal BM. He has been constipated and nothing I tried helped. I was told it was due to his low muscle tone and we would most likely just have to live with it. Then this week I took him for his very first adjustment. The chiropractor asked me about his BMs I said he is always constipated. The chiropractor feels around his lower back and says that it is really stuck but he gently gets it back in place. The chiropractor then tells me that should help. Guess what?! That very night Ronan has his very first normal BM! And he has everyday since. I'm floored, thrilled! Coincidence, maybe but unlikely. Nothing else I tried worked but one simple adjustment and the problem is fixed.

So lesson to the wise if you don't have a chiropractor find one I would not have survived four and half pregnancies without one. They helped my oldest when he had torticollis, instead of hours of therapy a few adjustments fixed his severally stiff neck and now they helped my baby to poop normal!

Now about glasses. On the same day as the miraculous adjustment Ronan got glasses. We got them in the afternoon so he only used them a short time. He somewhat tolerated them. The next day my persistence became more annoying to him and by today it was pure misery for the fact I insisted he wear his glasses. I was given some great suggestions including giving him Tylenol before putting the glasses on in case they are causing him a headache. I'm going to try that in the morning and I'm hoping this will help and the battle of the glasses will be at least eased.

Somewhere in Taloki Land.

Landon Lee Fullmer. He is my very first baby, the child that brought me into the wondrous gift of motherhood. I often reflect back on the days before Landon was born and I had no clue what to expect. I had so many goals and ideals for a tiny person that hadn't even taken his first breath yet. I knew the moment I found out of his arrival he would be a boy. I'd always wanted a son first. I'm not sure if it was to have leadership for future siblings (as his father wanted) or what but I knew I wanted a son. I remember my first glimpse at him and thinking he was beautiful. I had been told that most newborns look like little old people and parents are often surprised they aren't the perfect, pudgy, vision of a baby. This was not the case with Landon. He was perfect and beautiful and far above what I'd imagined.

Now he will be five tomorrow and I have no clue how these years faded. The tiny baby I once held is now an energetic, intelligent, iron man loving, soon to be five year old. We went on a date , just him and I last night. We ate chicken nuggets, french fries and icecream. He built an owl at our local build a bear then I took him grocery shopping where he ran around insanely trying to talk me into every treat and toy he found.

A part of Landon that still mesmerizes me ever since the moment this aspect popped his green 2 in head into our lives is Taloki. What is a Taloki? I have been asking this question since my three year old son announced his existence while we were sitting in the hardware store parking lot waiting for Isaac to pick up home improvement items. From what I have always gathered Taloki is 2 inches tall has green hair, green pants and many red shirts. Also where Taloki comes from he is a superhero who can blast villains. Taloki has a mommy, daddy, little brother and sister. His family travels around in a bus which is where they live. Taloki has been full of mischief from the start and has aided in scribbled walls and even an egg toss all over my kitchen floor.

I have no idea where my small child came up with the name Taloki and I have done massive research to find out where he could have found the name most of the time my searches have come up empty handed until the other day. I found something almost comical and closely related to Taloki that it makes me wonder. I came across the name Loki. Loki is the Norse god of well let's just say, mischief. I find this funny that my son came up with a mischievous friend whose name is so close to the god of mischief.

It has been two years and Taloki has still never gone away. He has had birthdays several times a year since people in his world have them more than once a year. He has helped protect Landon from fierce evil monsters that seek to reveal their shadows in the dark of night. I have often wondered if the invention from Taloki was a sign that I needed to get my son out more and cringed when we are at a playgroup and hear Landon point to the empty space next to him and tell his fellow peers that this is Taloki.

Last night I finally asked Landon when did you find Taloki? He said "Don't you remember mom? It was when we lived in that house in Missouri. When we first moved in there I was three and sad that we didn't know anyone and everyone was really far away. Taloki came because I was sad and became my friend."

So who is Taloki an imaginary friend who my child just won't quit imagining into existence. I'm not really sure and movies like "Drop Dead Fred" and "Harvey" come to mind and once in awhile I wonder if Taloki may be more than what my adult mind will allow me to believe. But after all is said in done I am glad my son sees the magic in the unseen and I realize how quickly logic replaces the innocence and belief of childhood. Years from now when Taloki is no longer slaying monsters or helping to make art projects on the wall. I hope that Landon will still look back and keep some of the magic that formed the existence of one of his very first friends.

It seems I've forgotten I created this blog

I should be more regular now in posting updates. I have four babies now Ronan joined our family on May 29, 2009. I believe I will post a few more blogs about him in the future. I want to talk more in depth about what he has brought to our family and the wisdom his tiny presence has bestowed upon me. For now Landon will be five tomorrow. He is a bundle of energy still. He seems to have been this ball of electricity zooming at an immeasurable speed since well before he was born. Five years later I have still not learned how to catch him.

Xander. What do I say about this boy Xander. He announced today that he has a humongous head and that Yoda (from Star Wars) is his favorite little person. He is always coming up with things that astound me. His words often make me wonder if he is indeed three years old or a little old man masked behind cuteness.

Jadzia is completely a princess. She is very proper and hates being dirty. Frosting from a cookie caked on her hand will send her reeling into a tantrum that seems to demote her royal status just a bit. She is now fully potty trained which she decided to do over just one night.

Now there's baby Ronan. My sweet, brave Ronan who has endured more than a lifetime of struggles. His smile melts my heart. He is beautiful, opinionated and determined. But as I said I will talk more in detail about Ronan in the future.

Also we have a new baby girl on the way. She is due July 9th and I can't wait to see her face and hold her tight. So there's the update hopefully I can keep this up to datein the future.
